Job Summary:
The Bioinformatician II contributes to Product Support’s two main goals: supporting existing microarray and NGS-based cancer diagnostic testing products on the market, and assisting in the transition of new products from research and development to the market.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform analysis of high-throughput microarray and Next Generation Sequencing [NGS]) – based biological data
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams to execute assigned projects, including:
- Support existing products by addressing internal and external requests
- Detect, monitor, and investigate issues observed in Laboratory Operations, determine if diagnostic results are affected, and find solutions if necessary
- Transfer new products from Research through Product Development to Laboratory Operations
- Identify and validate process and product improvements, e.g. to reagents, workflows, equipment, algorithms, and software
- Support ongoing Clinical Study data analysis and software development and maintenance
- Communicate project status and analysis results in a clear, concise manner to the relevant audience
- Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, ISO and FDA regulations and oversight
- Follow all Agendia health and safety policies and procedures
- Assists the Senior Director, Product Support in planning and directing the technical work of other members of Product Support
- Advises the other members of Product Support on more challenging and/or problematic projects
- Exercises independent judgement, discretion, initiative, and resourcefulness in defining and executing Product Support projects
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned
Contacts:
This position may interact with all departments within the company, especially Lab Operations, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance, Research and Development, and Clinical/Medical Affairs; as well as external collaborators and the scientific community.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, or life science with a strong background in bioinformatics
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 2 years commercial company experience preferred but not required
- Experience with molecular diagnostic testing and with either microarray or NGS bioinformatics preferred but not required
- Experience working in a regulated CLIA/CAP environment preferred but not required
- Experience with Cell Free Liquid Biopsy and Whole Exome NGS data analysis will enhance qualifications
Skills and Qualifications Requirements:
- Technical
- Strong programming experience in R, familiar with other languages (preferably Matlab and Python) and ability to rapidly acquire competence in other languages as needed
- Sound knowledge of bioinformatics, as well as theoretical and applied statistics and molecular biology applications
- Knowledge of analysis methods for high-throughput data such as microarrays and NGS, preferably in the context of gene expression. Experience with cell-free liquid biopsy and whole exome NGS data analysis will enhance qualifications.
- Familiar with the Microsoft Windows environment and Office applications
- Familiarity with the Linux command-line environment
- Non-Technical
- Strong problem-solving skills – able to quickly collect information to assess a problem, apply personal experience and expert opinions from others to find a solution, and implement the solution quickly and accurately
- Strong communication skills – able to fully comprehend complex topics, while being able to distill that knowledge into a clear, concise summary for laypeople
- Strong time management skills – able to work on multiple projects with minimal guidance and prioritizing them based on department and company needs. Maintaining progress on long-term projects in the face of urgent tasks
